Church Growth Research Programme

Church Growth Research Programme

The Archbishops’ Council and the Church Commissioners selected a team from Cranmer Hall, part of St Johns College, Durham, to lead a major research project on church growth. The project involved research into three areas:

  • Cathedrals, ‘greater churches’ and larger churches – led by Canon John Holmes
  • Fresh expressions and church plants – led by Revd Dr George Lings
  • Team ministries and amalgamations of parishes – led by Revd Dr David Goodhew

Cranmer Hall was awarded a substantial sum for research which was completed in the autumn of 2013.

In addition, this research fed into further research strands sponsored by the Archbishops’ Council and the Church Commissioners – led by teams from the University of Essex and OxCEPT, based at Ripon College, Cuddesdon, respectively. Details of the overall programme can be found at: http://www.churchgrowthresearch.org.uk
